Green Chicago River

They really do dye the Chicago River green for the St. Patty’s Day Parade.

“The festivities began just before 11 a.m. Saturday when the Chicago River was dyed a bright shade of green. Crowds of people lined the river to witness the 40-year-old Chicago ritual.

The coloring used is actually an orange dye that turns green when it hits water. As tradition, the mix of top-secret ingredients was dumped in the river from a boat.”    ( Chicago Tribune)

I read another article that said that the green is “magically” gone by the end of the day….and that it’s safe for fish and people.
